A cyber-attack targeting automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in August 2025 has been identified as the most costly cyber incident ever to hit the United Kingdom. The CMC’s report, published on October 22, indicates that the fallout from the attack was widespread, affecting more than 5,000 UK organizations. The analysis suggests the “vast majority of the financial impact” stemmed from the catastrophic loss of manufacturing output at JLR and throughout its multi-tier supply chain. Sources indicate that the incident led to a complete IT shutdown, forcing a halt in global manufacturing operations. This included JLR’s major UK plants in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton, where production lines were reportedly silent for several weeks.

The report states that the disruption extended far beyond JLR’s factory walls. Analysts suggest the total cost “could be higher if operational technology has been significantly impacted or there are unexpected delays in bringing production back to pre-event levels.”
